It may surprise most homeowners that to give your house a makeover, all you need is just a new coat of paint. Simple, yes, but the doing can be quite tough. It’s a labor intensive work and you may need to brainstorm a little for some interior painting ideas. However, it’s best to consider the reasons why you are doing this. Interior painting can take many days to complete and it requires a lot of energy to complete the whole job. Painting itself is exhausting work and if you don’t have enough reasons to do the work, your interior painting ideas may fall apart and the painting halts midway. So why are you doing this? Is it:

• Your neighbor is doing it
• Your walls are dirty
• Your children have painted the walls with crayons
• Your spouse cannot sleep at night because it’s the wrong color

When you get the reasons right, it will be easier to see everything through and you will become more creative and you may develop insights to giving your home a new makeover. You may think about patterns on the walls, or use sponges to leave decorative marks on the wall, or create patterns with stencils and stamps.

Exterior Painting

A fresh new coat of paint can transform the exterior of your house. The appearance and value of your house will improve and the paint will also provide many added benefits to the lasting quality of your home.  Peeling, blistering, chalking, and rust, mildew, cracks and chipping are some of the most common exterior paint problems.

The following procedures will be applied as necessary to your particular job under normal conditions:

•    All furnishing and floors will be covered and protected as needed
•    Walls will be scraped, patched, and sanded.
•    Wall and ceiling cracks will be filled with joint compound and sanded smooth
•    More advanced cracks will be spackled and sanded smooth
•    Glossy surfaces and trim will be sanded and cleaned to assure proper paint adhesion
•    Rough areas due to previous paint failure will be sanded and scraped
•    Cracks in wood trim and along wall/trim interface will be caulked
•    Work areas will be cleaned and vacuumed, and debris will be taken away
•    Upon completion, left over paint will be labeled and left at the job site
•    Worker(s) will remain on job until completion of project

In addition to modernizing the look of your home, there are a number of reasons why you should consider updating your wall or ceiling painting texture through popcorn removal. These reasons include aesthetics, convenience, and safety.

Before we arrive:

Have all fragile items removed from the room(s), such as vases, tabletop framed photos, anything breakable that could be knocked over. Please remove all items from mantels, top shelves, table tops, etc. If your closets are included, please be sure the top shelf is emptied. We will take care of moving large items around where we need them, such as sofas and tables. We work from the center of the room and will move everything to the edges of the work area. We need enough room to easily move our ladders and equipment around. Keep in mind that you and your family will not have access to the work area during the process, so make any arrangements necessary for your convenience (toilet, necessary belongings, telephone, etc.) We recommend you make arrangements to leave the home during the work if your entire home is being done.

Our preparation:

We cover the floors with 2-3 layers of plastic, and cover the furniture as well. The furnishings will be moved towards the walls or removed from the room. Plastic is hung on the walls all the way around each room, from the ceiling to the floor, and secured in place with masking tape. This tape can cause peeling of the underlying wall paint and cannot be prevented due to the nature of the strong adhesives needed . Once the masking process is complete, each room will resemble a large garbage bag, with only the ceiling exposed. This keeps your home protected from water, drywall dust, popcorn ceiling debris, etc…Light fixtures, smoke detectors, ceiling fan bell housings and the like, will be dropped down or removed. Any remaining fixtures will be masked and covered with plastic.

We then wet the ceiling with water and use drywall knives to scrape off the acoustic. The water must be used in order to control the dust an to keep the drywall from being damaged by the scraping process. We then repair any damaged sheetrock, and recoat the tape joints and nail spots where needed. Once dry, your ceiling will be retextured in the style of your choice. The new texture will need to dry for a minimum of 24 hours. Weather and temperature can affect the dry time. Please keep your thermostat set at around 66° in the winter, and about 75° in the summer. We also ask that you keep a few windows just slightly open throughout your home for good ventilation. These precautions are to insure good adhesion of the new texture to the sheetrock.

From patching or repairing the smallest nail hole to replacing whole sections of drywall or re-texturing, we have the drywall repair experience to meet your drywall needs.  Most drywall repairs we work on receive 2-3 thin coats of joint compound spread over a larger area than normal.  This drywall repair process ensures adequate filling and assists us in having nicely sanded and feathered edges on our drywall repairs compared to having  ridges, humps, and uneven repair work.

We erect temporary plastic walls in areas of the house where the drywall repair work is isolated to a particular room or area which helps keep drywall sanding dust to a minimum.  In addition, the drywall dust which is generated on interior drywall repair projects can be evacuated out a window by our turbine ducted fan and air control systems.  This is a great benefit to your health and over all well being.
